Personal Information:

Comfort Logee was born 23 Feb 1777 in Glocester, Rhode Island4. She was born in that part of Glocester that later became Burrillville. Her parents were Caleb Logee and Rachel Battles. On 14 Aug 1802 a marriage intention was recorded in Douglas, Worcester County, Massachusetts5. It listed the couple as Joseph Emerson and Comfort Lojure of Gloucester, Rhode Island.

Joseph Emerson was born abt. 1777. He was the son of Joseph Emerson. It is possible that he was the Joseph Emerson born 17 Apr 1777 in Reading, Massachusetts to Joseph Emerson Jr. and Rebekah6. When Joseph's father died about 1 Oct 1830, he left a will7. The will was executed on 12 May 1821 and was recorded on 23 Nov 1830 in Worcester County8. Comfort's husband was given as a bequest "all my wearing apparel and all my farming tools and carriages of every kind and Blacksmith tools and Machinery tools and my Shoemaker tools together with all the livestock." He left his home and a parcel of property to his daughter , Sally Morse. He left one dollar each to his other daughters Rachel, Judah and Rhoda.  Joseph's father also made specific bequests to his grandchildren, six of Joseph and Comfort's children. He gave all his furniture to be equally between their 3 daughters: Mercy Emerson, Rachel Emerson and Judah Emerson. He left the residue of his estate to Joseph and Comfort's sons: Aaron Emerson, Caleb Emerson and Burrill Emerson.

The probate of the will included three guardianship actions9;10;11. The first on 23 Nov 1830 was an inquistion into the mental state of Joseph Emerson and Aaron Emerson. Though no guardian was deemed necessary for Joseph, a guardian was sought for Aaron. On 4 Mar 1834 Aaron and Caleb Emerson, "being unable to care for themselves" were appointed a guardian named Wm Jepherson. Wm Jepherson was also appointed as the guardian of Darling Emerson, minor child of Joseph Emerson over the age of 14 years of age on 1 Apr 1834. It is not clear from the record what specific condition of Joseph, Aaron and Caleb prompted the court action.

Comfort died on 20 Feb 1844 in Douglas aged 67 years12. She was buried in South Street Cemetery13. Joseph followed in death on 29 May 1844 at age 67 in Douglas14. The cause of his death was listed as "Bled to Death." His burial location has not been identified. South Street Cemetery also became the burial location for some of their children and other Logee descendants.
