Personal Information:

Jacob Hock/Hawk was born in 17951. He apparently was married three times. He had at least 3 children from his 1st marriage, probably 2 children from his 2nd marriage, and no children from his 3rd marriage. His first wife was named Sarah2. He married 2nd on 19 Nov 1829 to Anna Leatherman in Fountain County, Indiana3. Anna died prior to 1837.

On 22 Jan 1837 Jacob married Betsey Taylor in Fountain County4. Elizabeth "Betsey" Taylor was born 20 Oct 1804 in Virginia5. Her mother's given name was Jane.

Jacob and Elizabeth resided on a farm in the W1/2 of  NE1/4 of Sec. 20 Twp. 20N Range 7W, Richland Township6. This was located a short distance from the farm of her brother, Hugh Taylor. Beginning about 1842, they joined the Center Chapel class of the United Brethren. It had a small membership. Listed among the prominent members was Jacob Hawk7.

Jacob died on 23 Oct 1846. Elizabeth received her 1/3 dower which was involved in a lawsuit with Jacob's children in 18488. In 1850 Elizabeth's mother, Jane Taylor, was living in her household as well as Jacob's youngest son James. At that time her land was valued at $3,000. Elizabeth died on 22 Jul 18529. She was buried by her husband in Union Cemetery, in Richland twp. Years later her brother Hugh Taylor would be buried just a few feet from her grave. No probate record was found for Elizabeth.
