Albert CAMPBELL was born 9 Nov 1783 (family record) or 10 Nov 1781 (calc. from gravestone). He was the son of Obadiah CAMPBELL and Mary OPDYCK1. His father was originally from the Sussex County area of New Jersey and had later moved to Northumberland County, Pennsylvania.

By 1809 Albert had moved to Butler County, Ohio. On 13 Apr 1809 he married Rebecca BAKE, daughter of John Richard BAKE and Eleanor (SLAUGHT) BAKE in Butler Co., Ohio. The BAKE family appears to have followed the same basic migration path from Hunterdon Co., New Jersey to Northumberland County, Penn. and then to Butler County, Ohio. It is not certain if Albert actually moved to Ohio with the BAKE  family. However, he settled on a parcel of land adjoining John Richard BAKE..

In 1826 or 1827 the Albert CAMPBELL family moved to Fountain County, Indiana. Over the next few years he and his sons, Bake, Albert and John purchased more than 300 acres of farm land at the edge of Richland and Cain townships3.

Albert CAMPBELL died on 22 Aug 1845 and was buried on his farm. His probate listed his wife; sons John & Albert; daughters Jane & Phebe; and Bake Campbell's children. No mention was made of son, Obadiah or his heirs. Therefore he must have died and left no issue. His son John was made administrator of the estate. The proposed partition of Albert's estate did not sit well with his son Albert. He filed a lawsuit against the other heirs including his mother4. This did not cause a permanent rift in the family as Albert continued to make land transactions with his siblings and his mother, Rebecca,  lived with until her death on 20 Oct 1871.
