John J. Campbell was born 24 Feb 1862. He was the son of James CAMPBELL and Matilda (JUSTICE/JUSTUS) CAMPBELL. On 27 Aug 1884 he married Hattie DICE at Fountain Co., Indiana1. Hattie was born 1 Dec 1866 and was the daughter of Franklin and Malinda (REDDEN) DICE2. She was also the sister of Genevra DICE who married John Wallace CAMPBELL and sister of Boswick DICE.
John and Hattie had five children. About 1897 they moved to Moore's Prairie in Illinois. On 2 Jan 1905 a tragic incident took the life of John J. CAMPBELL while he was visiting the town of Mt. Vernon, Jefferson Co., Ill3. While trying to come to a friends help, he was struck in the head with a piece of furniture by a Perry Hollinger. The result of the blow caused a blod clot on his brain which ended his life on 3 Jan 1905. He was brought back to Campbell Chapel Cemetery for burial.
Hattie lived for many more years. She died 19 Sep 1952 at Veedersburg, Ind. and was buried beside her husband at Campbell Chapel Cemetery4.
