James CHAPMAN was born in 1835 in Indiana. On 31 Mar 1864 he married Elizabeth (CAMPBELL) at Fountain County, Indiana1.  Elizabeth was born 8 Jun 1845 the daughter of John and Malinda (FRAZIER) CAMPBELL. They farmed near Veedersburg, Fountain County in the Campbell Chapel area. They had four children of which only 2 survived past the year 1900.

James died in 1908. Elizabeth followed in death on 15 Apr 1918. She died at the home of her daughter Sarah (CHAPMAN) FLETCHER near Hillsboro, Fountain County, Indiana2. The cause of death was listed as arteriosclerosis3.

The stone, in Campbell Chapel Cemetery (shown above), of Sarah Jane Chapman d. 5 Jan 1857 age 11 d/o James and Elizabeth maybe a sister of James Wesley Chapman. She was born too early to be a child of James Wesley and  Elizabeth (CAMPBELL) CHAPMAN. Similarly there is a Miranda E. Chapman dau. of E & J.W. Chapman buried at Old Hillsboro Cemetery (from transcription) died 23 Aug 1869 aged 11y 10m 19d. This may mean that James Wesley Chapman's parents were a James and Elizabeth Chapman and that these two girls were sisters of the James Wesley Chapman in this sketch.
