Thomas FRENCH was born abt. Feb 18611. He was a prominent farmer in the neighborhood of Campbell Chapel2. On 30 Sep 1880 he married Nancy REDDEN at Fountain County, Indiana3. Nancy was born 21 Feb 1862 and was the daughter of George REDDEN and Rebecca (CAMPBELL) REDDEN4. Just prior to their marriage, Nancy was residing with her aunt, Mary (CAMPBELL) BRANT. She was listed in the 1880 Census as a servant in her aunt's home.

Thomas and Nancy had eight children. Two children died as infants. On 1 Mar 1918 Thomas FRENCH died from complications of an appendicitis. He had undergone surgery in Indianapolis but did not improve. He was brought home where he soon died. Just one year later, on 21 July 1919, Nancy FRENCH died. Her cause of death was listed as apoplexy. She passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edgar HENTHORN, at Waynetown, Montgomery Co, Indiana5. The family would suffer another loss in just a few months. On 18 Sep 1919, their youngest daughter Pearl died of meningitis6.

John and Marie had 2 other sons and 2 daughters.

  5. Willie A. French b. 26 Sep 1889; d. 3 May 1978 Veedersburg, Ind.; married Bertha Henthorn on 9 Jan 1910, Fountain Co., Ind. She b. 5 Oct 1889 Pilot, Illinois, d/o Wiliam A. and Lucy (Moore) Henthorn; d. 25 Jan 1984 Crawfordsville; buried Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Willie was a livestock buyer and a farmer9. He was a member of Campbell's Chapel Church. Willie and Bertha had a son and daughter10. Their son, Hubert, was b. 6 Jul 1917; d. 16 Jan 1996; buried Waynetown Masonic Cemetery; He married Freeda Woodrow 14 Feb 1939, Fountain Co. She b. 6 Aug 1919; d. 16 Jan 1996
  6. Ruth W. French b. abt Jan 1893; married Elwood Jackson
  7. Alta M. French b. 31 Oct 1894 Fountain Co., Ind.11; d. abt 18 Dec 1983 Crawfordsville, Ind.; married Edgar L. Henthorn on 7 Aug 191212. Edgar served for over 30 years as a mail carrier. He lived at Christian Union from 1912 to 1977, when he moved to Waynetown. He was a member of Waynetown Masonic Lodge, York Rite of Crawfoersville, Scottish Rite Valle of Indianapolis and Eastern star, Chapter 435 of Waynetown. Alta (French) Henthorn was a member of Eastern Star and of the Christian Union Church east of Waynetown. Edgar and Alta were buried in Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. They had 2 sons. One son, Albert, b. 6 Jul 1913; d. 1 Jun 1980 Urbana, Illinois; buried Waynetown Masonic Cemetery.
