Obadiah Campbell was born 2 Jul 1740 in New Jersey (probably Sussex County)1. Obadiah Campbell was probably the son of Robert Campbell2. He may have been a tailor by trade3. On 1 Sep 1763 he married the widow Mary (Opdyke) Reynolds. She was the daughter of Benjamin Opdyck of Bethlehem twp. Hunterdon Co., N.J.4.
By 1779 Obadiah settled in Northumberland Co., Penn. and later obtained a Land Patent for 400 acres in Shamokin twp., Northumberland Co, Penn. on 20 Apr 17935. His religion was Presbyterian and his political affiliation was Democrat.
Mary (Opdyke) Reynolds Campbell died on 10 Aug 1801. On 30 May 1802 Obadiah married 2nd to the widow Mary Wilhison. It was this Mary who was included in various land transactions in Northumberland Co., Penn. in 1810/18116. His 2nd wife died in 1816.
Obadiah (written Obidiah in will) of Shamokin twp. executed his will on 13 Oct 1817 in Northumberland Co., Penn.7 He mentioned his children: Benjamin, John, James, Robert, Obidiah, Albert, Johanna wife of George Ely and Jennet wife of Caleb Ely. He named his son James and nephew Robert Campbell as executors. The inventory of the estate was made on 1 Feb 1819. His son, Robert, was residing in Ohio in 1819 and by 1824 John and Albert were also residing in Ohio7.
CHILDREN OF OBADIAH AND MARY (OPDYCK) CAMPBELL:
(Another child, Elizabeth, was linked to this family group in some
reports-- but she was not mentioned in the Will and the source of that
conclusion was not listed, therefore, she has not been added to this family
group)
Also, a Family Record was made in 1832 by son, James Campbell, which listed all
his siblings and no Elizabeth was listed.
